Jennifer's October Observations

Paris — September kept us on our toes with design events from Maison&Objet and design week in Paris to the London Design Festival and Focus/24. We have also got the preview for Heimtextil 2025 to share, a vision for next year hints at fresh directions. The journey ahead promises more innovation and discovery.

FULL MOON

Decor from the Earth & Sky

Paris — This trend direction unveiled at Maison&Objet explores future interior design through five space-time capsules, blending colors, materials, and styles. From radiant metallics to ethereal worlds and sandy dunes, it offers an immersive journey into imaginative, poetic interiors, serving as inspiration for interior designers, buyers, and creators.

MOON

Cosmic Inspired Merchandising

Paris — These trend spaces offer visitors innovative tools for success, blending cosmic inspiration with real-world merchandising. Through symbolic destinations—Neptune, the Moon, and Mars—it explores themes of materiality, imagination, and innovation. These celestial inspirations guide creative design, blending science, fiction, and new visions for living on Earth and beyond.

Future Continuous Colors

Milan/Frankfurt — Each year, Heimtextil unveils a color palette shaped by societal trends, reflecting global shifts. For 2025, a new trend team offers a unique approach to interpreting colors. The 25/26 palette, created by Alcova and inspired by six interviews, blends natural tones with vibrant shades, symbolizing the balance between tradition, innovation, and sustainability. Textile Craft Tech

London/Frankfurt — Janis Jefferies is a pioneer in textile research, and Heimtextil has previewed her work on the Bloomsbury Encyclopedia of World Textiles to be published in 2025. She emphasizes the evolving discourse on sustainability, advocating for a shift toward natural fibers and regenerative practices. Jefferies also noted that textiles represent humanity's first technology, intertwined with craft.

Good Design Principles

London/Frankfurt — Isle Crawford has had an influence on the Heimtextil 25/26 trends. StudioIlse focuses on human-centric design that values emotion, materiality, and intimacy. A priority in the studio’s ethos is the importance of continuity over the notion of "new" and emphasis on integrity in commercial partnerships, advocating for sustainability through the use of durable, natural materials.

Fibers and Farmers

Bolzano — Christine Ladstätter of Salewa discusses the concept of "natural color" in textiles, criticizing the industry's approach to labeling. She emphasizes the importance of engaging with local farmers, fair compensation, and the resurgence of hemp for its environmental benefits, promoting sustainable practices across the industry. The design direction of truly natural colors is gaining momentum.

Democracy and Biomaterials

Amsterdam/Venice — Here is a multi-pronged approach and new vision for the production of materials. Ultimately, the goal is to make technology, value chains, and production systems transparent, traceable, and sustainable, creating a future where materials are produced responsibly and consumers are empowered with knowledge.
