Jennifer's June Journal '05

Paris — Garden fresh talent does not always sprout up like Cabbage Patch Kids, but if motherly influence has anything to do with it, these “cool threads for bad-ass babies and trendsetting tots” are setting the right tone. Who ever said baby gear had to be pink and blue? After listening to your requests, Trendease found some trendy baby products to tickle your fancy. Check out this gallery as well as catch up on some ‘tot’ilating tidbits.

The Blue of Kings

Mexican Cities — May 6th was Trendease’s birthday; the offices were closed and the team took the day off. Jennifer went to a place where her cell phone, Internet connection, and other communication gadgets would be cut off from the world. In Mexico for less than 36 hours she visited friends she had made while working as a stylist supervising print runs outside of the city. She brought back a slew of photos to share with us. Welcome to Jennifer’s photo journal of vivid colors, intricate crafts, and rich culture.

Fly Away with Me

Multiple European Cities — This is a gallery of contemporarily stylish motifs. According to The Great Sources of Modern Architecture and Design and other reputable design history resources, similar motifs were en vogue during the Art Nouveau period. Now the motifs are generally more mystical and suitable for all ages depending on the rendering. Click into this gallery and fly away with me.

New Talent: Material Girls

London — Trendease has been tracking these textile-loving Material Girls from Frankfurt, Prague, New York, to London and we are extremely impressed with the aptitude they have harnessed. We even showed some of their designs at a recent presentation only to hear “ooohs” and “ahhs” coming from the audience. In a nutshell, this bunch of Material Girls have an almost spiritual impact on their fans each time they come out with something new.

Responsible Design: Pumpin'em Out

Eindhoven — The Design Academy Eindhoven ceases to amaze us with the level of talent that emerges from their school. We have seen many of their exhibitions in cities such as Rotterdam, Frankfurt, Milan, and New York over the past year. Not only are their design products appealing to purchase, most of them are also designed responsibly. In this gallery upholstery is made to fit man’s current lifestyle, lighting takes on new forms, eating and storage experience space in an entirely new manner.

Gun vases by Suck UK are transformed into the British flag

Spring has Sprung

New York — Coinciding with the ICFF, Spring Gallery pulled in quite a crowd for the opening of the new “What you looking at?” exhibit, displaying agenda driven product design from the UK. Not purely about design, but design that sells, these products evoke emotions that entertain us as well as criticize and analyze man’s actions.

Dragon Ladies & Gentlemen

Paris — Dragon ladies and gentlemen are right on trend taking in a mixture of ethnicities and rapid globalization. On May 19th Trendease had the pleasure of watching some dragon ladies on the runway as well as get a glimpse of the new talent Parsons has to offer this year. From the fashion of apparel and textiles to fine art and design, with design management to boot, this gallery explores the hot talent entering the market.

Enter the Design Laboratory

Worldwide — The Design Laboratory contest by Electrolux solicits design teams to create objects that will change our everyday lives in ways big and small. Trendease saw the prototypes, and now you can see the changes in the pipeline here.

EcoChic: Clear Thinking

Salt Lake City — Being environmentally friendly, socially responsible, and on the cutting edge of technology and style all at the same time is certainly a tall order, but some companies are stepping up to the challenge of becoming truly EcoChic. For companies in the consumer goods market, this kind of effort is a gradual process that takes time and thought. See the EcoChic choice for June here using enticing colors, textures, and finishes.

Como — The latest news from Proposte in Como is that “fashion had a huge impact on all innovations presented at the exhibition with respect to colors, patterns and extra decorations.
